Honey has been shown in a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled studies to decrease a nighttime cough and improve sleep in children with this problem?

A teaspoon of honey, given alone or in a noncaffeinated liquid before bed, has been shown to reduce the severity and frequency of coughing. It improves the sleep of both the child and the parents. Honey should not be given to children younger than 12 months of age because of the risk of botulism, although this risk is very small.
