-BRUE replaces ALTE
-a BRUE is limited to children less than one-year-old. If a child is older than one year, don’t consider BRUE.
-a BRUE usually lasts less than 20-30 seconds.
-a BRUE includes one or more of the following: skin color change (cyanosis or pallor); breathing change (absent, decreased, or irregular breathing); change in tone (marked hypertonia or hypotonia), and altered level of responsiveness.
-If you can determine a cause from H&P, then it’s not a BRUE.
-Don’t get CBC, BCx, LP to work up a low-risk patient with a BRUE.
