Diagnostic Criteria for Acute Pancreatitis

GASTROENTEROLOGY

The diagnosis of acute pancreatitis requires that 2 out of 3 of the following criteria must be met:

  1. Abdominal pain in the upper quadrant[Clinical]
  2. Lipase or amylase  >3x the upper limit of normal. [Laboratory]
  3. Imaging (CT, MR, ultrasound) findings consistent with the diagnosis of acute pancreatitis. [Imaging]
