When should you discharge a patient after a coronary angiogram?

At our hospital,

  • Discharge after 4 hours of rest if no stent was placed (i.e. just coronary angiography without any intervention). That’s of course if they don’t bleed. Call the cardiologist who did the procedure if they bleed. It’s a complication of their procedure.
  • Discharge the next day if a stent was placed –i.e.if any intervention was done.
