Used for de Quervain tenosynovitis – tendonitis of
– the abductor pollicis longus,
– the enxtensor pollicis brevis, and sometimes the extensor pollicis longus.

Note: The anatomical snuffbox has the following boundaries:

The medial border of the snuffbox is the tendon of the extensor pollicis longus.
The lateral border (closest to the edge of the hand) is a pair of parallel and intimate tendons, of the extensor pollicis brevis and the abductor pollicis longus.

** pollicis refers to the thumb. Longus means long and brevis means short. Notice that there are two extensor pollicis–the longus and brevis. The brevis (short) one pairs up with the abductor pollicis longus.
