Heat Stroke

Treatment of children with heat stroke consists of immediate whole body cooling, usually performed by cold water immersion.

Rapid cooling should be continued until the temperature decreases to 101 or 102°F.

ABCs: Careful monitoring of the airway, breathing, circulation, temperature, and CNS status is crucial. IV fluids should also be initiated as soon as possible, at a rate of 800 ml/m2 in the first hour.
