Intubation Tips

Scissoring the Mouth

The index finger (of your right hand) goes first and pulls the upper teeth upwards and the thumb goes second and pushes the bottom teeth down to scissor or pry the mouth open. You open towards the molar section (at the corner) of the mouth–not in the middle–to get the mouth to open well.

Inserting the blade

Insert the blade in the right side of the mouth–not in the middle–and the sweep or push the tongue to the left to get it out of the way and be able to visualize the anatomy well and insert your tube. Don’t put the blade in the middle because the tongue will be in the way.
