80% of clavicular fractures are mid-shaft fractures (occur in the mid-clavicle).
Nondisplaced
-Treat with a sling for 2–6 weeks.
-Passive range of motion of the shoulder is indicated as soon as the pain allows.
-Physical therapy may be started at 4 weeks after the injury.
-No need to refer unless the fracture is significantly displaced

Displaced
Operative treatment is an option to treat displaced midshaft fractures.

“When compared to a figure-of-eight dressing, a sling has been shown to have similar fracture healing rates in patients with a nondisplaced midshaft clavicular fracture. In addition, a figure-of-eight dressing is uncomfortable and difficult to adjust, and patients have reported increased satisfaction when treated with a sling.” ABFM. A sling is more comfortable and less irritating than a figure-of-eight bandage
