The following acrostic, MIGRAINE is a memory tool for remembering some pertinent facts about migraines.
M = Multifactoral causes & triggers, Motion sickness.
I = Incited or triggered by many things. 85% of pts can identify trigger. They may need the help of a HA diary. On average each patient has 3 triggers!
R = Recurrent disabling headache
A = Aura in only 20% of cases.
I = Imitrex (sumatriptan) and other triptans, like Ilitriptan.
N = NSAIDS (Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, etc), Acetaminophen, and Caffeine.
E = Excedrin migraine (APAP/ASA/Caffeine) and Ergotamine/Caffeine combination.
