Dr. Abuzahra wants his nursery presentations to include the following:

  • Mention only facts that are important or significant.
  • Name of baby
  • Number of hours of birth
  • Gestational age,
  • Type of delivery
  • Don’t mention maternal age and gravida-para unless pertinent
  • Significant labs: Mention only pertinent labs e.g. GBS positive (with adequate treatment or not), O positive and DAT neg/positive.  No need to say GBS negative or other blood types for mom that are not significant.
  • E.g. 37-week female born via NSVD to a multiparous female….
  • APGAR: Mention if worrisome.
  • If LGA or SGA mention
  • Complications during delivery, mention them.
  • Length ROM: Mention only if > 18 hours.
  • Pertinent family hx
  • Pertinent maternal history e.g. mum with methadone use, mum with lupus etc.
  • P.E. : unremarkable / no pertinent findings
  • Bili  and risk of phototherapy (high, moderate, and low risk), should be mentioned.
  • Weight change if you have access to it.
  • Are they okay going home?
  • Don’t mention pediatrician. Get it but don’t mention it in the presentation.
