Factors that may suggest that a concussion patient is at high riskĀ and therefore may benefit from prolonged recovery or caution for return to play:

  1. More than three symptoms at presentation
  2. Specific symptoms (i.e., fatigue, tiredness, or fogginess)
  3. A headache lasting more than 60 hours
  4. Loss of consciousness for more than 60 seconds
  5. Amnesia
  6. History of concussion
  7. Age younger than 18 years
  8. Comorbid conditions
  9. Medication use (psychotropic drugs, anticoagulants)
  10. Dangerous style of athletic play
  11. High-risk sport (contact, collision)
