TAMPER: How to determine if a diagnosis is a current diagnosis for billing purposes

Did the provider TAMPER with the diagnosis on that date of service? If the answer is yes, the diagnosis may be considered current.

TAMPER stands for:

• Assess,
• Monitor/Medicate,
• Plan,
• Evaluate, or
• Refer

I found this excellent acrostic somewhere. Some of the terms seem to be redundant but it’s memorable.
