Palpitations are an unpleasant abnormal sensation that one’s heart is beating abnormally. The heartbeat is sensed to be unusually rapid, strong, or irregular and described by patients as pounding or racing. HR usually over 120 bpm. They are most often caused by anxiety/panic attacks as well as by cardiac arrhythmias. A palpitation is perceptible to the patient. The person is aware of it.
